Writing a good prompt
The better the brief, the better the first draft. Here is what to include, an example you can adapt, and a generator that builds the prompt for you.
What to include
You do not need a special format — plain sentences work. The more of these you give, the less Claude has to assume:
- Business name and industry.
- City or region — important for local SEO.
- The services or products you offer.
- Who your customers are (target audience).
- The tone you want — professional, warm, premium, energetic.
- SEO keywords, if you already know them.
- The language the site should be written in.
- How many pages you want.
- Phone, email and address for the footer and contact page.
Use the prompt generator
Do not want to write it by hand? The generator turns a few fields into a ready-to-paste prompt. Fill it in, copy the result, and start a new chat in your Claude project.
An example prompt
Here is the kind of brief that gives a strong first draft. Copy it, change the details, and paste it into a new chat:
I run a small dental clinic called BrightSmile in Örebro, Sweden. We offer general dentistry, teeth whitening and emergency care. The tone should be warm and reassuring. Write the site in English. Please make a four-page site: home, services, about and contact. Keywords: dentist Örebro, teeth whitening Örebro. Phone 019-123 45 67, email [email protected].
Tips for better results
- Be specific about services and tone — vague briefs get generic pages.
- State your city and keywords so local SEO lands in the right place.
- Name the pages you want, or let Claude propose a structure.
- Iterate in the same chat: ask Claude to adjust wording, colours or sections.
- Replace the placeholder images with your own after import.
- Run Lighthouse on each page and fix anything it flags.
Use an image or screenshot for inspiration
Once you have the prompt in Claude, you can paste an image for inspiration. Write something like:
I have attached a screenshot of a website I like. Please use it as visual inspiration for the style, layout, colors, spacing, and overall look and feel. Do not copy it exactly, but create something with a similar professional impression.
